Announcement imminent, Man United on the brink of first January signing, £31m deal on card

Manchester United are on the brink of signing Kostas Manolas from Roma, this is according to reports.

United  bolstered their ranks in the summer transfer window but the show-off of their defence reveals they need to sign a quality centre-back and they have identified Manolas as one.

The Greek defender has a £30.75m release clause in his contract that would become active at the end of the season and United are keen on a sealing a deal for him this month in order not to lose him.

Manolas arrived Roma in the summer of 2014 and ever since, he has established himself as a classy centre-back at the club.

United were linked with the signing of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld in the summer but their price tag were too bogus for the Red Devils to meet.

The Red Devils have beamed their search light wider after reports also linked them with a move for Eder Militao recently, but Marca, per Metro claim Manolas is the main target of the club.

When informed of United’s interest, the 27-year-old star laid bare his desire to play for a club like United: It’s only natural you want to play for the biggest clubs, like Barcelona , Manchester United , Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently revealed that he would welcome new faces at the Fortress of Old Trafford even though he is not expecting new signings this month.

“I don’t expect anyone to come in but obviously if the club have targeted and identified a few and I think they might fit here, I’ll give my thumbs up. But it’s not just my decision,” the Norwegian said.
