Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to sign a new contract with Manchester United this week, according to reports.
The Swedish forward joined United on a free transfer last summer but his contract was not renewed after it expired in June following a knee injury he sustained in April.
He was scheduled to be out till early next year but he has made a quick-than-expected recovery, and according to ESPN who cited sources at Old Trafford, the prolific striker will now put pen to paper on a new contract this week.
The 35-year-old has been undergoing rehabilitation at United’s training ground and as per the reports, his new deal will be lower than his first £365,000 per week deal at the club.
Mourinho has already signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a £75 million deal this transfer window while Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have also put up impressive displays in their games this season.
But he still wanted Ibrahimovic at Old Trafford as he was said to have been impressed with the forward’s 28 goals return last season and his influence in the dressing room.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward was instrumental to United titles challenge last season, helping them to win the Community Shield and EFL Cup but missed the Europa League final due to his injury.
His return to Old Trafford will add more firepower to United’s final
third and more depth to the squad, with the club competing also in the
Champions League this season.
