Announcement imminent: Liverpool agree personal terms with $59m-rated midfielder, Coutinho’s replacement?

Barcelona are relentless in their pursuit of their star target Philippe Coutinho and the Reds may have started preparing for life after the aforementioned Brazilian midfielder.

If reports making the rounds is anything to go by, then Liverpool are on the cusp of signing Croatian international and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 23-year-old creative hub joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 from Inter Milan in a deal believed to be around  €29million but he has remained the bit-part player. With the likes of Isco, Modric and Toni Kroos the talented midfielder started in just 19 La liga games for the La Decima holders last term.

Liverpool are looking to give the player an exit route from the Santiago Bernabeu in a bid to salvage his career as they have identified him as the ideal replacement for Coutinho. According to Diario gol, he has agreed personal terms to join the Reds albeit it is a verbal agreement.

Reports have indicated that Barcelona are considering a whopping £130million offer for Philippe Coutinho and the Reds may not be able to continue holding on to the player. If they sell Coutinho, they would have recouped huge funds and even smile to the bank after spending on Kovacic or other target.

Kovavic is versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder or any position across the midfield. His current contract expires in 2012 and he has a release clause (Sport via ESPN) of 50 million euros ($59million)
