There is a common cliche in football that ‘Real Madrid always gets their man’ but will not be the case as their chase for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has hit the rocks. The Spanish shot-stopper is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new improved contract extension deal, according to reports.
De Gea has consistently being on the radar of Real Madrid since the departure of Iker Casillas from the club. He was close to joining the Champions League holders until a faulty fax machine scuppered his move on deadline day of the 2015 summer transfer window.
There were speculations that Madrid had ignited their interest for the acrobatic netminder, with claims that they will launch a bid for him in the summer. Nonetheless, the Santiago Bernabeu outfit may have to look elsewhere to solve their goalkeeping issues.
According to a report by the Sun, Dea Gea is on the verge of becoming the second highest earner at the fortress of Old Trafford, with a £350,000 a week deal on the table for him. The report further claims De Gea’s new deal will eclipse that of Pogba, Rooney and David May, with only Alexis Sanchez earning more than the Spaniard.
An agreement between De Gea and Man United is yet to be reached but the report further claims the Red Devils are optimistic that the deal will be sealed before the start of next season.
