Liverpool have advanced talks with German central midfielder Emre Can over a contract extension deal, revealed by the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.
Can is in the final year of his current contract and has been a subject of heavy transfer speculation to Juventus as he has stalled over signing a contract extension for Liverpool.
There were report that he agreed personal terms to join the Old Lady but after allowing Lucas Leiva depart Liverpool, Klopp is way of losing another key player.
Klopp was quizzed about the player’s move to Turin and he played down that report, stating that the former Bayer Leverkusen marksman is already having good talks to stay put at Anfield.
“You can imagine we’re involved in talks and we all feel good and confident in this moment,” Klopp said.
“That means they’re not the worst talks but until anything is done or signed there’s nothing to say.
“Emre is a very important player for us. We don’t want to sell or lose players who are in our first line up or close to it.
“Emre is certainly one of them. We want to keep him and we’re having good talks.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of Naby Keita after the club ruled out a move for the midfielder. Klopp may have to look else where to bolster his squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
