Almost done: Arsenal will complete first January signing for £45m

Chelsea and Manchester City conceded defeats in the Premier League on Saturday. The result of the Blues now means Arsenal are very much in contention for a place in the top four of the league after drawing level on point with their West London rivals.

Unai Emery revealed in the summer that he is pleased with his squad but the injuries in the squad has condemned the Spanish manager to go into the market, with reports now indicating that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Turkish and Roma winger Cengiz Under.

Under has been in blistering form for Roma this season and he has attracted interest to himself from several top European clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

While several clubs are interested in signing the Turkish winger, Arsenal are believed to be frontrunners for his signature. The Gunners reportedly tabled a bid for the player, which was thrown away by Roma.

However, report according to Cornwalllive has claimed the 21-year-old star would be available for £45m. The player is tied to a contract with Roma until 2022 but the Serie Club will only let him leave if their valuation of the player is met.

Arsenal’s scouts have been spotted watching the player on several occasion and they are serious about luring him to the Emirates.

  1. Arsenal spent £50 million total in the summer window. Emery himself has said the club would like to add a central defender in January, if the team finds the right player at the right price (that is a paraphrase). Under is not a defender and he cost more than Arsenal’s entire crop of new players. so how likely is this transfer. Answer; not at all. This story is being put out by the winger’s agent in hopes of getting his man a new, more lucrative contract from his current team.
