Aaron Ramsey may have wheeled out of the Emirates with chants filled with praises over his man-of-the-match performance swimming in the air, but it would be hard to gloss over the impressive showoffs from Ainsley Maitland-Niles during the Gunners 2-nil win over Manchester United.
United were huge favourites coming into the game after a swashbuckling performance in France against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Riding on the back of that successful victory it was easy to declare them favourites as they walked into the Emirates pitch.
Romelu Lukaku should have got them ahead in the early minutes of the game, but spurned his chance.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery had decided to play a back-three formation, a tack that befuddled fans given the frailties that have increasingly piled up at their backlines.
However, it turned out to work afterall against a highly motivated United team. Maitland-Niles started as a wing-back on the right-hand side of the pitch, a horrific sight for Gunners seeing him play. However, the 21-year-old held himself and handled pressures coming from Manchester United especially from Frenchman Paul Pogba and striker Romelu Lukaku.
What more, was the build up that led to the first goal. Maitland-Niles was quick to play in Alexandre Lacazette who laid on the assist for Granit Xhaka that opening the scoring before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang killed the game finally, this time scoring from the spot.
