It was earlier reported that Chelsea made a bid for Real Madrid and Spain international striker Marco Asensio which was rejected by the Spanish giants during the January transfer window. The youngster has seen his place taken by Gareth Bale who made a return to full fitness in the second half of the season. He therefore wants a move out of Santiago Benarbeu in the summer, according to reports.
Chelsea remain keen on his services and they are ready to make an improved offer so as to complete his switch to Stamford Bridge ahead of the upcoming season.
With Alvaro Morata’s struggles in front of goal this season, Antonio Conte believes the 22-year-old would be the perfect solution to the Blues goalscoring crisis which has seen them drop to the fifth position in the Premier League table behind Tottenham.
Chelsea’s move for Asensio has taken a new twist as the club owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly set to be involved in the deal. Abramovich wants to meet with the player’s representative for discussion so as to convince the young player to reunite with Alvaro Morata who was his teammate during his time with the La Liga Champions.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez seems not ready to part way with Asensio who broke to limelight in 2016 after his impressive performance and some well-taken goals which helped Madrid to the UEFA Champions League glory.
Asensio is understood to also be on the radar of Manchester United and Jose Mourinho could battle the Blues to sign the star following the poor form of Alexis Sanchez.
Real Madrid are also interested in Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard which means there might be a swap deal between the two European giants in the summer.
