Manchester United fans have been at the edge on their seat over a deal for a striker. While Jose Mourinho left everyone thinking that Alvaro Morata was his prime target, he obviously had Romelu Lukaku as his plan A.
According to reports, Everton have accepted Man United’s £75m bid for Belgium international international Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku had rejected an improved contract offer from the Toffees at the close of last season and he informed the Merseyside Club of his desire to jump the ship to a better Club.
He was thought to be on the radar of the Premier League Champions Chelsea ,while Man United kept close tabs on Alvaro Morata. Alas, he will become a Man United player according to latest report.
Manchester United are currently without an established out-and-out striker after letting Zlatan Ibrahimovic leave and Mourinho has been on the search for quality options even before they proceed for their pre-season tour.
Lukaku ended last season as the second top scorer of the Premier League with 25 goals and he is poised to do better next season.
The Belgian stalwart is represented by super agent Mino Raiola, who also represents Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mhkitaryan. You can deduce that it was his client that brokered this deal.
Confirming the deal, Skysport reporter James Cooper said:
“Manchester United have got their number one target. I’m told the Wayne Rooney deal isn’t linked with this offer, although negotiations are going on between the clubs. Lukaku will have a medical in the next couple of days, which means he should be able to join up with the squad in America for pre-season. United report for training on Saturday and fly out on Sunday.
“This means United have ended their interest in Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.”
