In a bid to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season, the Gunners have reportedly tabled £53million for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. The 32-year-old midfielder has been one of the best midfielders in the world since he joined the Galacticos in 2012 from Tottenham in a deal reportedly worth £30m.
Reports emanating from the Emirates Stadium suggest that Arsene Wenger is set to bring the Croatian midfielder to North London in the summer as he hopes to find a long-term solution to his midfield problems.
It is also confirmed by Don Balon that the Gunners are in contact with the player’s agent over a possible switch to the Emirates Stadium in the summer due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of their midfielders —Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.
It is yet to been seen if Real Madrid would allow one of their highly-rated players to leave the club in the summer as they hope to challenge for the title in the coming season.
The former Dinamo Zagreb player has formed great understanding with Casemiro and Toni Kroos at the middle of the pitch and that was largely responsible for Madrid’s back-to-back Champions League triumph in 2016 and 2017.
Modric’s stay at Santiago Bernabeu has been largely successful, having won many trophies with the Los Blancos including one La Liga title, a Copa Del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, three Champions Leagues, three Uefa Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups.
Though his appearance for Zidane’s men has drastically reduced this season, his importance to the team cannot be underestimated. He has featured in 31 matches in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season scoring two goals.
