Arsenal are yet expecting Arsene Wenger to yield to the voice of popular demand and add one more player to the squad before the close of the season.
However, Arsenal are looking to reduce the headcount of their players and they have completed the transfer of Brazil born centre-back Gabriel Paulista, according to reports.
Valencia confirmed on Friday that they completed the signing of the speedy centre-back after the Gunners accepted a £10 million bid for him. He put pen to paper on a five-year deal and an €80m release clause was inserted in the deal.
While Gabriel is not the best defender in the world, he is certainly not the worse and his transfer has somewhat come as a shock for the Gunners fans. Players like Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Debuchy have only flattered to deceive but they continue to be favourites for Arsene Wenger.
Gabriel joined Arsenal from Villareal in the January of 2015 and he is famously remembered for attempting to bully Diego Costa in the Gunners Premier League match that saw him Red carded. His departure has ended his two-year struggle at the Emirates.
He was predominantly used as makeshift right back last term and his performance was above average, particularly in the Gunners FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City last term.
His departure will inadvertently pave way for Calum Chambers to to be promoted and take his place in the squad of the Gunners.
We wish him well.
