For a while now, the race for the signature of wantaway Arsenal star Mesut Ozil appeared to be delicately poised between three major English clubs, which are Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. However, recent reports indicate that Manchester United have now taken the lead and already made a move for the attacking midfield maestro; and, while that is subject to Arsenal’s approval, they are optimistic that a transfer will be announced as early as in the winter transfer window.
If all goes according to plans, where exactly will the Ozil fit in at United?
Mourinho is good at getting the best of players, and so it is most likely that he will deploy the creative midfielder as part of his attacking midfield triumvirate to run riot just behind the main striker, in his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
While the likes of Matic, Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini can keep the central midfield in order, a player like Ozil will be more effective when placed closer to the opposition goal. His vision, superior ball control and ability to make defense-splitting passes will be of immense benefit to club-record striker Romelu Lukaku, or whoever is appointed to lead the line. Sitting just behind behind the striker and flanked by two wingers, he would be fearsome to any opposition defense.
Capable of putting in the killer pass for Lukaku to dispatch, or shooting from distance, or supplying the other wingers, Manchester United’s attacking front will surely become more fearsome when Ozil is included
