How are the mighty fallen! Such seems to be the curious case of Wayne Mark Rooney who has seen his stock drop in value in the last couple of years.
Reports about Rooney exiting Old Trafford this summer has gone viral, with a move to his boyhood club Everton being mooted. It is claimed that the striker is set to leave in a bid to create some space for the Alvaro Morata who has been tipped to complete a player plus cash move worth £60 million, with De Gea going the reverse way.
Despite reports to the contrary, Talksport now claim that the striker is set to trigger the clause in his contract which would see him remain at the club for another year beyond his current contract stipulated to run out in the summer of 2019.
Rooney takes home £300,000-a- week at Manchester United – a wage package only the Chinese Super League giants can match – and it remains to be seen whether he would go for regular playing time at Everton or stick to the United’s. But it is the latter that would dent his legendary person. Notwithstanding, Rooney has been a shadow of himself, and it could not have been worse than this, as he only made 15 starts in the premier League, with 5 goals and 5 assists to show for his efforts.
Indeed his stats makes for an interesting read since he managed to get 8 yellow cards which goes a mile to show the level of frustration on the pitch.
Take nothing away from him; he is a legend in the making, having broken a number of records of which the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, 253 – ousting Bobby Charlton – happens to be one of them.
