The French national team has produce many defensive midfielders and this means for any one of them to get into the national team, they have to be exceptional and play regularly for a big club.
Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko reckons that his compatriot and teammate N’golo Kante is not a better player than he is, this is according to report.
Bakayoko was a key figure for Monaco that conquered the French league. He was signed by Chelsea as a replacement for Nemanja Matic but the 23-year-old has been tongue-lashed by fans and pundits for failing to leave up to his bidding.
Ahead of Les Blues friendly games with Wales and Germany, France coach Didier Deschamp dropped Bakayoko from his team but that decision appear not to have gone down well with the Chelsea player.
Bakayoko was quizzed after he was dropped and in his claim, non of the midfielders in the Camp of France is better than him.
He spoke on Canal and he said:
“I’m disappointed. I believe in this World Cup, it’s still my goal. I play for a big club; I think that can work in my favour.
“I feel [Adrien] Rabiot, Kante, [Blaise] Matuidi, [Corentin] Tolisso are not better than me.
“I respect the coach’s decision and I also respect the players who were called up – they are talented, some are friends of mine.
“I’m proud that they were called up. I’d like to be with them. But I’m not below them.”
It is a massive blow for him because if Paul Pogba returns to the French national team, he will fall further down the selection pecking order and may not even go to the world Cup.
Despite winning the PFA player of the season and always putting on the beast mode, Kante and Matuidi constantly fights for a place in Les Blues’ squad but on any scale and by all standards, Kante has proven to be the better player for now.
