In a bid to reward hard work and secure the future of some players to the Club, Jose Mourinho is ensuring that players that are running out their contracts are offered extension, to tie them to the Red Devils.
According to the Mirror, Manchester United have begun talks with Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera over an improved contract.
Under the management of Jose Mourinho, Herrera assumed the status of the most improved Man United player and this contract extension comes as a patting on the back for his recent exploits for the Red Devils.
Following his hard tackles and stellar performance for Man United last term, he was dubbed the new “Kante” by some quarters of football but it appears that Clubs in the Liga have an eye on him – Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are among the Clubs keeping close tabs on him but this deal will certainly ward off all the advances of the La Liga Clubs.
After two years of scouting, Herrera joined Man United from Atletico Bilbao in the summer of 2014 in a deal worth £30million and he agreed a weekly wage to the tune of £100k. However, the report claims United are now offering the Spaniard £150k-per-week in wages with an extension until 2021.
Herrera’s career dropped under former United boss Luis Van Gaal but the tactical prowess of Jose Mourinho surged his career back. Among the midfielders of Man United, Herrera seem to have been the best partner to French star Paul Pogba, no wonder he was voted United’s Player of the Year last season.
Man United have been linked with a move for Nemanja Matic and Tiemoue Bakayoko but it is left to be seen of any new signing can dislodge Herrera in the midfield of United.
