Chelsea’s dream of qualifying for the Champions League quarter final stage could be dealt a huge blow as Barcelona youngster Ousmane Dembele returned from his injury setback.
According to the Blaugrana coach Ernesto Valverde, the Frenchman is back from injury and he is in contention for a starting place when his side battles Chelsea in next week’s Champions League round-of-16 fixture.
“He’s okay,” he told a news conference earlier this week. “He’s started training sessions.
“I hope he can come back into the squad for next week.”
The 22-year-old striker joined the Catalans from Dortmund last summer to become one of the biggest transfers in the history of club football. The player has managed just one appearance for the La Liga runaway leaders due to the injury he picked in his debut appearance for the club.
While giving an update on his players’ fitness levels, Ernesto Valverde told the press that Gerrard Pique could be out of the clash against the Premier League Champions due to minor injury he picked up against Espanyol last weekend.
Pique who is one of the oldest players in the team is set to undergo a scan to detect the length of his injury.
The Argentine manager also admitted that new player acquisition Yerry Mina could be given the chance to represent the Spanish club for the first time should Pique fail to recover from injury before the match.
Yerri Mina became the first Colombian to play at Camp Nou after completing his move to the La Liga giants from a Colombian League side in the winter.
Antonio Conte will hope that his team gets a win against the Catalans in both legs of the tie.
