Man United to agree € 65m deal for South-American CB, player keen on transfer

Jose Mourinho is yet undone in his rebuilding effort for the Manchester United team and he is poised to go back to the transfer window when it is re-opened in January.

Uruguay international and Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez is desperate to force move away from the Vicente Calderon and Man United could take advantage of his situation to lure him to the fortress of Old Trafford.

Gimenez’s contract will expire at the end of this season and he has refused offers made to him by his club. While he is expected to sign an improved contract, the 22-year-old could exit Madrid when the transfer window is re-opened in January.

According to Calciomercato, Juventus are leading the chase for the centre-back but he is unlikely to get regular game time with the Old Lady. The presence of Georgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, and Benedikt Howedes’ will be a stumbling block to Gimenez’s game time.

The 22-year-old defender has not found life easy with Atletico Madrid, he is currently not in the first team of Diego Simeone’s squad but a move to Man United could help him realise his dream of playing regularly.

United bolstered their squad in the summer but Victor Lindelof has failed to live up to his bidding. The only defender assured of regular game time at United heart of defence is Eric Bailly and Mourinho is not pleased with that.

The report further claimed that if he Gimenez signs a new deal, a € 65m release clause will be inserted in his deal, which will be good enough for any club to prise him away.

United are not the only club in his chase, Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on the star.
