Manchester United are reveling the ambiance of a good run of form and they will be hoping to replicate the recent feat against Chelsea when they travel to the Etihad to face city rivals Manchester City this Thursday.
Jose Mourinho may be with his most priced player Paul Pogba after reports according to Goal emerged that the French versatile midfielder picked up a knock when the Red Devils defeated Burnley in their Premier League game.
Pogba shone for the Red devils at Turf Moore but limped off the pitch at stoppage time and was replaced by Michael Carrick. The £89million midfielder had played 120minutes for United in their Europa League quarter final win against Anderlecht, that may have accounted for his injury.
Mourinho was full of praise for the midfielder but he reckons that Pogba may not be in contention for the derby clash on Thursday.
“I don’t know,” Mourinho said. “Dead he is for sure, if he’s injured or if it’s just the super accumulation of fatigue in the muscles, I don’t know.
“But as I was saying, if he cannot play Thursday he cannot play Thursday, we play another one and we don’t cry, like we didn’t today.”
Man United have significantly reduced the points deficit between them and the top four teams, Champions League qualification now looks possible but the recent spate of injuries to key players might truncate their good run of form.’
Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are long term absentees, they recently joined Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones who are on the recovery pane. With Pogba doubtful for the Wednesday game, up to six key players are ruled out for the Premier League game.
Man United are just one point adrift Manchester City on the table, a win will move them into fourth position
