Manchester United boss José Mourinho is set to rival his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola for the services of Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos in the summer according to El Confidencial.
The 28-year-old joined the Galaticos in 2014 from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, and he has been great for Zinedine Zidane’s team at the middle of the pitch.
El Confidencial suggests that the German wants a new challenge and he believes it’s time for him to move to the Premier League where some of his national teammates including Mesut Ozil, Xhaka, and Per Mertesacker currently ply their trade.
Pep Guardiola, whose team has been solid at the middle of the park this season, is reportedly ready to make an official approach to Kroos’ agent so as to discuss a potential move for the player in the summer. Manchester City currently have enough midfielder who can link-up play between the defenders and the strikers, but Guardiola hopes to add the German to his squad so as to be more ruthless while attacking.
Mourinho’s team hasn’t been playing up to the fans’ expectations in recent matches despite purchasing Alexis Sanchez in the winter.
The Portuguese manager is also not getting the best out of Paul Pogba as he is playing him out of position. He is hoping he beats Guardiola to Kroos’ signature in order to move Paul Pogba to his familiar attacking position while the German plays as an holding midfielder or as a playmaker as the case may be.
Kroos is valued at 80,00 Mill. € according to transfermarkt.
