One thing that makes Jose Mourinho unique as a football manager is his propensity to spend in the transfer market, Paul Pogba is a typical example of how desperate Mourinho can be if he wants a player.
Last night the fans of United went agog with reports all over media wave that French forward Antoine Griezmann had agreed personal terms with Man United ahead of a move in the summer.
Emerging reports from the Express has refuted the initial claims of the Sun, citing a report by Skysports that no personal terms agreement have been reached between United and Griezmann.
Sky Sports journalist Ben Ransom spoke yesterday and said:
“Today they are being linked with Antoine Griezmann the Atletico Madrid forward.
“He has played so well over the last couple of seasons for Atleti. They have reportedly discussed personal terms with him.
“A little bit of an update today from here in Vigo, Spain. I’m told they have not agreed personal terms with the player despite some of the reports back home, which are a bit premature.
“I am told that four clubs are potentially chasing Griezmann as a summer signing.
“We are led to believe from his representatives that he would only be interested in joining a club in the Champions League.”
The France international is understood to have a release clause worth £89million, which is same as the amount used to sign Pogba from Juventus last summer.
Griezmann is has been asked by his compatriot to come and join United at Old Trafford but many media outlets have claimed he’ll come only if we qualify for the Champions League.
With Champions League qualification through the Europa Cup almost assured, Mourinho will have no choice other than to bolster his thin midfield and attack with Griezmann as a prime target.
Griezmann is a versatile forward who can play on the wings, as the striker or behind the striker. If he joins, he will complete a potent front three for us that may include Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
