Perisic’s 68th minute equaliser for Croatia against England during their World Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday, invited soaring cheers.
But perhaps what eclipsed those shouts was when his shot ricocheted off the woodwork, after beating Jordan Pickford in the goal area.
Nonetheless, he came close to scoring twice but was denied by the Three Lions defence.
However, his physicality appeared to be unrivalled after his header found Mandzukic’s boot, who later drove a low ball at the far end of the post, finally beating the outstanding Pickford.
His vintage display last night won him admiration from the ‘Special One’ Jose Mourinho who praised his strength on the pitch against England yesterday.
His domineering quality against the opposition’s defence was the buzzword in Mourinho’s praises.
‘Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others,’ Mourinho told RT.
“Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative. But he is also physical, very physical. Fantastic in the air.
“So the way he wins that ball in the air [for Mandzukic’s goal] and puts the ball into that space is only possible if you are very, very physical and dominant over defenders.”
United were previously linked to the Inter Milan man in the past but came short in their bidding for him.
Currently, the Croatian is valued at 50 million euros(£36.00m) by the Serie A outfit.
