Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard has asked Antonio Conte to play him in his left wing position when Chelsea travels to the Camp Nou in the return leg of their Champions League clash, according to report.
Conte played Hazard in a false 9 position ahead of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud and the Belgian was largely anonymous due to lack of services up front. Pedro eventually made way for Alvaro Morata and Hazard returned to his wing position in the second half.
The Blues were not dominant in the game but they had more and better clear cut chances which even culminated in Willian efforts hitting the wood work twice before he eventually found the back of the net. However, Lionel Messi canceled out Chelsea’s goal after a minute of lack of concentration, which means Chelsea must score at Camp Nou if they will qualify for the quarter finals of the competition.
Hazard was quizzed about how comfortable he was in the role after the game and he said:
‘To be honest, I like the role as a false 9. But in games like that against quality opposition like Barcelona, it’s difficult.
‘You don’t get a lot of balls. I might have touched 25 balls that night and 15 of them were flying toward my head.
‘That is not really playing to my qualities. I won some aerial duels against Gerard Pique, and that’s not bad. ‘But if I had to choose, I prefer to play like I did in the last 10 minutes, which was out wide. But it’s the manager who has the final word. On the wing I feel more comfortable. That’s my place.’
Chelsea’s best bet at a trophy this season is in the Champions League and FA Cup as they are currently off the pace in the Premier League title chase.
All hope is not lost in the Champions League and if they get their act right, they can end the dream of Barcelona in the competition.
