Long time Chelsea target, AS Roma and Belgium star Radja Nainggolan has recenly revealed how close he never came to leaving Roma for Chelsea. The blues have been in hot pursuit of his services for years now, and while reports always claim that deals were almost struck and only failed to materialize before transfer deadlines, the player
himself has come out to say that he was never close to leaving
Speaking to journalists ahead of AS Roma’s Champions’ league clash with Chelsea on tuesday in Rome, Nainggolan reportedly said (when he was asked about how close he has ever come to leaving Rome for London):
“Well I made my choice. I never hesitated or considered for a minute, so whether it’s Chelsea or someone else, it matters less.” He also added: “It’s always great to play against a top side, and like all professionals I know how to prepare for them. I’m ready to give my best and play well.”
Having come from two goals down to play out a 3-3 draw earlier this month at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a magical brace from Edin Dzeko, the Blues head to Rome with one thing on their mind: to win.
Conte has in times past confirmed his interest in the Belgian midfielder. Having once described him as one of the world’s best midfielders, the player and club fended off interest from potential suitors. His current contract runs until 2021, and he has his sights set on seeing it out.
