Chelsea have contacted Ligue One outfit Nice over a potential deal for Ivorian defensive midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, this is according to report.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined Nice from Paços de Ferreira in the summer of 2013 and he steadily improved upon his game. Barcelona and Liverpool took knowledge of him last summer but a deal for him fell through – the player revealed at that time that he was disapointed not to have completed a move away from France.
The player has never hidden his desire to further his career and Chelsea have been monitoring him for a while now. L’Equipe are reporting that Chelsea wants to sign the central midfielder and they have made the first contact in a bid to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have a plethora of quality central midfielders but Antonio Conte has bemoaned the lack of quality in his squad. There is no telling if Seri will make the first 11 of Chelsea but he will no doubt be a quality addition to the side.
Seri has an agreement in place with Nice that will allow him leave this summer in a €40m deal, and this tag will surely see clubs fight over his signature.
Chelsea are aware of the agreement he has with his club but they also have Manchester City and Liverpool to contend with for his signature.
