English centre-back John Stones could be on his way out of the Etihad at the end of the season, reports the Sun.
Despite given the chance to shine, Stones has failed to live up to his bidding at Manchester City and the club are ready to cash in on him. He was a regular at the start of the season but he was gradually losing his place until the signing of Aymeric Laporte in the January transfer window which pushed him to fourth place on the selection pecking order of Pep Guardiola.
Stones arrived Manchester City from Everton in the summer of 2016 in a big money move – before the move, Pep Guardiola has lavished him with praise and placed him in the class of centre-backs as former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand. Alas, Manchester City are already looking to sign a player that will compete with Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Laporte.
Guardiola is willing to allow the player leave next season and he is not pleased with the pace of his development. The Sun in their report claims Arsenal and Liverpool could take advantage of his situation to land him.
Arsenal are looking to overhaul their defence with the centre-back position the top-most priority. Meanwhile, Liverpool have bolster their defence with the signing of Virgil Van Dijk but they are still looking to add quality defenders to their side. Manchester City may not be willing to allow the player leave for a price less than the £47.5million they paid for him.
