For some time now, Arsenal’s weakest link has been their defence and goalie, which have allowed countless goals to be conceded by squad. Arsenal have conceded 36 goals in the League this term, 12 goals more than Burnley in seventh and same as Newcastle and Brighton Hove Albion in 13th and 14th respectively – the stats means the Gunners have to revolutionalise their back line including the goalkeeping area if they must be competitive.
Arsenal are expected to sign a goalkeeper in the summer as a matter of need and they have been linked with a move for Stoke City and Liverpool target Jack Butland, according to reports. Like Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp is displeased with the heroics of Karius and Mignolet in-between the sticks and they are poised to sign a more assured goalie and Butland appear to fit the bills for the side.
Meanwhile, Petr Cech has displayed lack of confidence in the Gunners recent games and that has affected his all-round performance, with many fans calling for his head. Cech will be 36-years-old in May but report according to the Sun reveals that the Gunners will go head to head with capital rivals Liverpool to sign Butland – he’s currently rated at £40m and it will not be difficult for the Gunners to spend so amount their fortify their backline.
Butland has been a revelation for the Potters and he has earned call ups with the Three Lions squad, and he has been tipped to be England’s top choice goalie for the World Cup in Russia. whoever signs him, would have signed a world class short stopper.
