Following Arsenal’s down turn in the Premier League, we may be set for the most exciting summer transfer window. Although Arsene Wenger is the captain that steers Arsenal, pundits and fans have not exonerated some key players from the dwindling fortunes of the Gunners. There’s a general belief that Wenger will overhaul his team when the window comes alive.
Top on Arsenal’s transfer list is Turkey international and Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Arda Turan, who has been touted to replace his compatriot Mesut Ozil, this is according to the Metro. The creative midfield intrigant is said to be unhappy with life at Camp Nou and wants out in the summer.
Turan, 30, joined Barcelona in the summer of 2015 from Atletico Madrid but was unable to make his debut for the Catalan club until the January of 2016, when they finished serving their transfer ban. However, despite his form and quality, the eagle-eyed passer has been unable to break into the first team of Barcelona, leaving him as a fringe player.
Several talks to extend the contract of Mesut Ozil have stalled and Wenger is already looking beyond the Germany international for next season. Bar the contract saga, Ozil has been a shadow of himself this season and he has been a tad underwhelming whenever he plays for Arsenal.
Turan is understood to have up to three years left on his contract but Wenger has pinned him at the top of the transfer target. Should he join Arsenal, he will be a quality signing for the Gunners – Turan is adept at holding the ball and his ability to pass the ball gives his team an edge in winning any midfield battle.
