Arsenal are reportedly in the chase for an 18-year-old Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt in the summer transfer window. According to British media outletThe Daily Mirror, Arsene Wenger is keeping a close watch on the youngster and he has sent the club’s representatives to monitor the player’s performance in the Eredivisie.
Despite his young age, De Ligt has been rock-solid at the back for the Dutch League giants. He has found the back of the net in three occasions this season and he has featured in 27 matches in all competitions this season but his time at the club could be up by the end of the campaign as Wenger is reportedly convinced with the report he’s received from the scouts.
The Daily Mirror also suggest that there might be a little hindrance in the player’s move to Emirates stadium next season, Ajax seems to be asking too much from the Gunners and the North London could be forced to cool their interest in the youngster should Ajax refuse to reduce their asking price on the player’s signature before the start of summer transfer window in three months time.
Wenger is reportedly set to make wholesome changes to his back line ahead of next season, the Frenchman has been linked with a move for United’s left-back Luke Shaw, Westbrom’s star Jonny Evans and now, the Ajax youngster De Ligt.
Hector Bellerin, Laurent Kolcieny have both been tipped to move out of the North London club so as to create space for incoming defenders in the summer.
