Barcelona academy La Masia, has produced some world-class player who have achieved great success in their respective clubs. Lionel Messi is arguably the most successful player produced by the academy having received the Balon d’Or award for five times.
Other players who have also risen to prominence from the Barcelona academy include former Liverpool left-winger Luis Garcia and Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who was Liverpool’s former goalkeeper.
Joel Lopez is another youngster from the La Masia academy who is being monitored by European top clubs, according to reports. Lopez has been in fine form for the Catalans Youth set-up and according to Spanish media outlet Sport, the youngster could be moving out of Camp Nou in the summer as Liverpool and Arsenal are leading the race for his signature.
Barcelona, who recently sold one of their great prospects Sergio Gomez to Borussia Dortmund during the winter transfer window are not willing to let go of Lopez as they hope to offer him a contract extension as soon as possible.
Liverpool and Arsenal are known for their investment in youngsters and both clubs are ready to complete a move for the youngster as they hope to improve their respective youth teams before next season commences.
The 16 year-old left-back joined Barcelona from local team CEVila Olimpica in 2011 and is being tipped to be one of the best defenders in the future.
