Arsenal have begun negotiation with Ivorian and Nice central midfielder Jean Michael-Seri over a possible move to the Emirates, this is according to report.
Seri was a subject of a serious transfer interest from Barcelona and Manchester United last term – The aforementioned Spanish club tried to sign the midfielder but the deal fell through and they opted to sign Brazilian star Paulinho.
Seri, who was impressive for Nice in the penultimate season, has replicated the same form this term and a host of Premier League clubs are already on his case.
According to the Mirror, while Chelsea are front-runners for the players signature, Arsenal have advanced talks with the player’s representative for a potential £40million transfer.
Since departure of Patrick Vieira from Arsenal, the club are yet to acquire the services of player in his stead. While Alex Song came close to being a world class defensive midfielder, his spell at Arsenal did not last long.
Arsenal sold Francis Coquelin in the January transfer window and Mohamed Elneny is currently the only marksman at the club but the North London club are looking to sign a beasty defensive midfielder in Seri.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have a plethora of defensive and central midfielder in their squad and even if Conte leaves, it is difficult to see how seri displaces the likes of Kante, Bakayoko and Fabregas from the midfield and so, he would rather prefer a move to Arsenal.
Seri has featured in 30 League games for Nice this term – he can play in an offensive role but he is mainly a defensive midfielder who is adept at breaking attacks and retaining possession.
