After being used as Morata’s back up throughout his stay at Chelsea this season, Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi was allowed to join Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the winter window. The striker who has proven to be a good goalscoring striker scored a brace in his debut match for the Bundesliga side, and the Blues seem to be regretting their decision for sanctioning his loan move.
The former Standard Liege and Marseille striker joined the West London club in 2016 with the hope of featuring prominently for the Blues, but that didn’t come to pass as he was always on the bench having failed to impress Antonio Conte who preferred using Diego Costa while he was at Stamford Bridge, and record-signing Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea’s recent poor form in front of goals has left many Chelsea fans wondering the reason behind Conte’s lack of trust in the striker.
The Blues currently need a regular goalscorer whom they could have gotten in Batshuayi. The 24-year-old was directly involved in 23 goals — 19 goals and four assists in just 1,772 minutes of action in all competitions since his move to the Stamford Bridge. With Morata’s injury problems and lack of form, the Belgian would have been the ideal man to rely on for goals.
Batshuayi could permanently move to the Westfalenstadion should he continue his impressive form for the Schwarzgelben.
Should he permanently move to the Bundesliga giants, he will join the list of players whose potentials were not maximised by the Premier League Champions. Kevin De Bruyne, Mohammed Salah, Romelu Lukaku have all left Chelsea to become established players with other clubs.
