Chelsea play Hull City in the English FA Cup on Friday and Manager Antonio Conte has given an idea of the squad he’ll feature, with new signing Emerson Palmieri set to be handed his Chelsea debut, according to reports.
Antonio Conte had bemoaned the lack of option for Marcos Alonso on the left wing back position and he sanctioned a deal for Palmieri, who joined the Blues from Roma a day before the close of the transfer window of January.
While Conte has featured new signings like Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud, Palmieri is yet to star a match in the colour of Chelsea Conte has personally confirmed that he will be given game time on Friday.
Conte was quizzed by Chelsea TV on the team he could feature in the FA Cup, if new faces will play and he said:
“Yes, but first of all, I want to tell you that we want to go through to the next round.
“We want to try to win this game and then to prepare also our confidence in the right way before the games against Barcelona and then two tough games in the league against United and City.
“But at the same time I think that my players deserve a chance, players like Ampadu deserve to play.
“For sure Emerson is ready to play from the start. But for sure we want to win.”
Alonso has been very consistent for Chelsea over the course of the past two seasons but he has been showing signs of over use lately, with a minor strain on his muscle and an ankle injury that has kept him on the sidelines on the last two games of Chelsea.
Davide Zappacosta deputised for Alonso in their last game but he is not an ambidextrous player, leaving Palmieri as top choice for the left wing back position.
