Chelsea have reportedly begun discussions with Eden Hazard over a new contract extension so as to prevent him from joining Real Madrid in the summer. According to the Mail, the contract is said to earn him £300,000 as his weekly wage.
Real Madrid have been a longtime admirer of the Belgian playmaker but they saw all of their bids being rejected by the West London club. Madrid president Fiorentino Perez doesn’t seem to have given up on his chase for the Belgian as he is ready to make an improved offer for the playmaker when the summer transfer window begins.
Eden Hazard is one of Chelsea’s best players since he joined the reigning Premier League Champions in 2012, helping Antonio Conte to winning the League last season. Despite Chelsea’s dip in form this season, the 28-year-old remains one of the best attackers in the league.
The Mail suggests that the Belgian is rated £200m by Roman Abramovich, and that could scare off Real Madrid from insisting on his signature.
Having returned from the injury which he picked up in the early part of the season, Hazard’s performance has drastically improved which has helped Chelsea return to winning ways though they lost their first game in four matches on Sunday when they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United in a very entertaining game.
Chelsea will hope that the Belgian continues his current form as he remains one of the players whose performance would ensure they qualify for next season’s Champions League by the end of the season ahead of Tottenham and Liverpool who currently sit ahead in the Premier League table.
