Manchester City have shockingly put an end to their longtime interest in Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
The Citizens were on the brink of completing the Chilean’s £60million move to Etihad stadium last summer, but Arsenal pulled out of the deal on deadline day after failing to get his replacement, Thomas Lemar.
According to the Mirror, Pep Guardiola is no longer in need of the striker, thereby giving room for Manchester United to outrightly buy the player from the Gunners.
It was reported yesterday via Sky Sports that United made a shock bid of £35million offer for the giant forward.
Apart from Guardiola’s lack of interest in the 29-year-old forward, City’s sporting director believes Arsenal’s price tag on Sanchez is too high for a player whom they could get as a free agent next summer.
The Mirror further reports that Sanchez wants £300,000 as his weekly wage, a price too high for the Citizens to accept. Manchester City might not be totally out of the deal if Arsenal and Sanchez lower their asking price before the end of the month.
Alexis Sanchez was surprisingly left out of Wenger’s starting lineup against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final which led to speculations that the Chilean could be on his way to Etihad.
Another player who could depart Emirates stadium is misfiring Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi. The 21-year-old is currently out of form and he could be loaned out to Galatasaray who are set to rekindle their interest in the youngster
